How Deommodore Lenoir saw 49ers cornerback Renardo Green grow during offseason

SANTA CLARA — The 49ers’ competition for who will line up across from Deommodore Lenoir in the secondary is developing, but the veteran believes Renardo Green is ready. The fifth-year NFL cornerback has been communicating with his younger counterpart in advance of the start of training camp and has noticed a shift in Green’s behavior.

“More confident in his craft,” Lenoir said of Green. “Just being able to come in, Year 3, and have the confidence to backpedal against a Hall of Fame receiver and being poised. I think he’s taking a big step in that direction.”

The Hall of Fame receiver Lenoir is referring to is new teammate Mike Evans, who joined the 49ers as a free agent during the offseason. The six-foot-five Pro Bowl player is a challenge for any defensive back, including Green, who stands five inches shorter.

Both defensive backs will have the chance to learn significantly from the lengthy wide receiver.
