But early Saturday morning, TMZ gave 49ers' fans some hope, with a report that Aiyuk made it clear he wants to stay in San Francisco. TMZ Sports caught up with the star wide receiver at LAX Airport on Friday. When asked if he's ready to suit up again for coach Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers, Aiyuk responded, "For sure," he told them. "For sure!"
Although there has been no new contract agreed upon, there have been positive reports recently, including Aiyuk's Monday meeting with Shanahan and GM John Lynch, and his appearance at Levi's Stadium on Friday. The meeting on Monday was described as "good." There's been no indication about why he was at 49ers' HQ on Friday.
Even though Aiyuk admittedly has taken things personally throughout negotiations, he also seems to be enjoying the journey. And he doesn't seem to be overly concerned about the outcome, telling TMZ, "I'm just vibing, man. I'm just hanging out."
And what about the Pittsburgh Pirates hat he was wearing when he arrived at Levi's Stadium on Friday? Aiyuk said not to read into it. The hat was part of a gift he received from the Pirates organization.
The star receiver had some encouraging words for 49ers fans, as well. "Everybody can rest easy," he said. "We've got God on our side. Everybody rest easy."
Good advice. Everyone breathe!
