Most of the San Francisco 49ers' projected starters sat out last week's preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans. That won't be the case Thursday night when the 49ers face the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium.
"Not all of them, but I expect a number of starters to play, unlike last week," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters. "I haven't told them yet, but they'll find out soon. But yeah, you guys will see a number out there."
Shanahan suggested that quarterback Brock Purdy will be among those starters seeing action. When asked if the 49ers' starting quarterback would play, Shanahan replied, "Haven't told him yet, but there's a good chance."
Purdy and the 49ers' starters got an early look at the Chargers on Tuesday during a joint practice at The Bolt in El Segundo, California. The two teams will now meet in Thursday night's preseason matchup at SoFi Stadium.
The 49ers will hold a walk-through on Wednesday that will be closed to the media. The team won't hold another full practice until after Thursday night's exhibition contest, most likely during the upcoming weekend in Santa Clara.
