The San Francisco 49ers could look to strengthen their roster ahead of the November 10 NFL trade deadline, especially after the Seattle Seahawks acquired All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts.
General manager John Lynch joined Bay Area radio station KNBR on Tuesday morning and was asked whether fans should expect the 49ers to make a move before the deadline.
Lynch offered no specific details but left the door open to a potential deal.
"We shall see," Lynch said. "We're working hard, just investigating everything that's out there, and we'll see. If we can help this team—I've said it many times—and help this team get where we are intending to get, then absolutely, we won't hesitate."
The 49ers enter their bye week with a 6-1 record, their only loss coming Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. San Francisco remains atop the NFC West and among the teams viewed as Super Bowl contenders, but plenty of football remains.
Adding a player before the trade deadline could help the 49ers strengthen their roster for the second half of the season. However, any deal would need to align with the team's immediate goals and long-term plans.
"We still have two weeks for it," head coach Shanahan said this week. "We still have the week when we get back, but if there's stuff that makes sense, that can improve our team in any spot, we'd love for that to happen."
Shanahan also noted that the 49ers expect several injured players to return after the bye week, potentially improving the team's depth.
"I mean, the obvious injury spots to us have been receiver and D-line," Shanahan said. "We are getting a number of those guys back at both positions, but that also doesn't exclude us from looking to something that would make sense to help us."
