After several weeks away from the field, San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa returned to practice Wednesday, participating in the team's final on-field work before traveling to Melbourne, Australia, for its Week 1 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

Bosa last practiced with his teammates on August 3.
The star pass rusher is returning from an ACL injury that limited him to three games last season. The 49ers medically cleared Bosa at the start of training camp, but he missed his first practice on August 5 because of soreness.

The 49ers later revealed that Bosa was dealing with tendinitis in his surgically repaired knee and was taking a cautious approach to his return. On Wednesday morning, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported that Bosa would travel with the 49ers to Australia, signaling that the team is optimistic he will be available for the season opener.

"Wednesday, he wants to get out on the field," general manager John Lynch said this week during a radio interview. "We've been working in conjunction with Nick on the best plan. He's been doing great work to the side. Nick has always had a great sense—and I've always believed this—really good players are very in tune with their body. Nick is certainly that. He's come back from ACLs before.
"It's disappointing because he came back in camp and was all ready, and then when he tried to get out there on the field, it got stirred up a little, and he got some tendinitis that often happens in an ACL recovery. So that was unfortunate. We pulled back. We got everything to where it was feeling better. And then Nick has kind of got behind this plan of really building him up, and then putting him back on the field."
