The San Francisco 49ers held their seventh full training camp practice on Wednesday as they continued preparations for the 2026 NFL season.
Defensive end Cameron Sample has not been practicing due to a knee injury. The 49ers waived him ahead of Wednesday's practice as part of a series of roster moves that included signing wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge and defensive lineman Ogbo Okoronkwo.
In addition to Hodge, the 49ers recently worked out the following players:
- OG Braeden Daniels
- OT Ryan Mosesso
- WR Donovan Peoples-Jones
- OG Kion Smith
- WR Kristian Wilkerson
Head coach Kyle Shanahan continues to observe practices as he gradually ramps up his workload while recovering from injuries—including a severe concussion—sustained in a July 14 car accident.

Offensive notes
According to ESPN's Nick Wagoner, quarterback Brock Purdy had another strong practice, completing 13 of his 14 pass attempts during team drills.
"Some highlights from Purdy: Escaped pressure from [DE Romello] Height, rolled to his right, got a good block from TE Luke Farrell and dropped one in the bucket to [RB Christian] McCaffrey over the middle for a big gain," Wagoner wrote. "In a three-play red zone sequence, he threw a TD to [RB] Patrick Taylor Jr. on a ball that was perfectly placed low and to the left where only Taylor could get it as [S] Ji'Ayir Brown closed in from the other side, then ran for a score on a designed run and finished by rolling out and finding [WR] Junior Bergen for a touchdown. He capped practice finding WR Jordan Watkins deep down the left side for another score in move-the-ball. "
The touchdown run by Purdy prompted the quarterback to celebrate in the end zone by dancing the "Dougie."
Wide receiver Jordan Watkins continues to take advantage of his increased opportunities, although he has missed a few chances on catchable passes. He recorded four receptions on Wednesday, including a touchdown catch from quarterback Mac Jones.
Wide receiver Junior Bergen also found the end zone, hauling in a five-yard touchdown pass from Purdy.
Tight end Luke Farrell may have had his most productive practice of training camp, catching five passes from Purdy.
The only competition along the starting offensive line is at left guard. Robert Jones worked with the first-team offense on Wednesday, while Connor Colby rotated in with the second- and third-team units.
"I wanted to give Connor some work at right guard, and I was going to split Carver [Willis] and Rob at the left guard spot," assistant head coach and offensive line coach Chris Foerster said. "That was the plan. Carver is in concussion protocol. Then [Brett] Toth gets hurt, so there's just some options.
"I still let Rob get that role. I was going to do a lot more interior-wise, so it wouldn't just look like it was flipping the two guys, but it didn't work out with the injuries."
Defensive notes
Cornerback Upton Stout matched up against wide receiver Deebo Samuel during a one-on-one red-zone drill. The rookie embraced the opportunity to test himself against one of the NFL's most dynamic playmakers.
"It's just good work," Stout said. "Anytime I feel like I see the best receiver, I always want to go against the best because I want to be the best. So, anytime I see Deebo run out there, I'm trying to run out there and get that work."
Defensive end Romello Height has been a problem for offensive linemen during one-on-one pass-rush drills, and Wednesday was no different. The rookie has consistently flashed his athleticism throughout training camp and looks like he could provide an immediate boost to the 49ers' pass rush.
With Osa Odighizuwa sidelined, second-year defensive tackle Alfred Collins received a bigger workload during team drills. Collins recently returned from the PUP list after recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
Linebacker Fred Warner recorded a run stop against running back Christian McCaffrey during team drills, while linebacker Jalen Graham made a similar play against running back Sincere McCormick.
Cornerback Jack Jones deflected a pass from quarterback Adrian Martinez, which landed in the hands of rookie linebacker Jaden Dugger for a would-be pick-six. Cornerback Darrell Luter Jr. also broke up a Martinez pass intended for wide receiver Demarcus Robinson.
Next practice
The 49ers will return to the practice field on Thursday, August 6 at 10:15 a.m. PT. The session will be open to fans.
