San Francisco 49ers beat reporter and insider Matt Barrows outlined new details surrounding the arrest of team owner Jed York in the Youngstown, Ohio, area on Sunday morning.
York pleaded no contest Monday morning to two misdemeanor charges: disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools. He spent two days in the Columbiana County Jail and was ordered to pay $1,150 in fines.
In a feature for The Athletic, Barrows reports that York responded to an ad on a prostitution website using the pseudonym "Joe." The ad was actually placed by an agent with the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force, who, a day earlier, used it to arrange a meeting with York.
The undercover officer received another message from York at 9:11 a.m. Sunday. York reportedly stated that he was driving in from Boardman, Ohio, about 15 miles north.
A price of $160 for one hour of sexual activity was negotiated, and York was instructed to meet at a fictitious lot number in the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community, a trailer park.
"Driving an Avis rental car, York was seen arriving in the mobile home park," Barrows wrote. "When he couldn't find the lot number, he went back onto the main road, where he was stopped by police. According to the report, a test text message showed that York's phone had been used to set up the meeting. Police seized the phone and the $160."
York was arrested at 9:35 a.m. on Sunday.
Barrows suggested that the "possessing criminal tools" charge likely refers to York's cell phone, which was later returned to the 49ers owner.
An NFL spokesman stated, "We are aware of the matter, which will be reviewed under the personal conduct policy."
The 49ers issued the following statement: "As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time."
