According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, executive vice president of football operations and president of 49ers Enterprises, Paraag Marathe, is leaving the 49ers to focus full-time on his leadership roles with Leeds United and Scottish club Rangers FC, as well as other sports ventures.
"The move was in the works for a little while, but is being formalized today, per sources," Schefter wrote.
Marathe currently serves as chairman of Leeds United, overseeing the club's commercial and sporting operations, and as vice chairman of Rangers FC.
During his 25-year tenure with the 49ers, Marathe held several key leadership positions and became widely recognized as the architect of the team's salary cap strategy. He led contract negotiations while working closely with general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan, helping shape the roster. He also oversaw the team's analytics department.
"His leadership and long-term commitment have shaped this organization in lasting ways," 49ers owner Jed York wrote in an email to employees, announcing the departure.
As the team's chief operating officer and president from 2010 to 2016, Marathe played a key role in planning, developing, and opening Levi's Stadium.
Marathe started with the 49ers as a data analyst in 2001, eventually becoming one of the franchise's most respected executives.
Assistant general manager Brian Hampton and VP of personnel and strategy Kwesi Adofo-Mensah are expected to take over Marathe's former salary cap management duties with the 49ers.
