The hopes of some San Francisco 49ers fans were dashed Wednesday when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers agreed to a one-year, $30 million contract extension with defensive tackle Vita Vea, ending speculation that the veteran star could be traded.
Unhappy with his contract situation, Vea had requested a trade, and the 49ers were among the teams that reached out to the Buccaneers to inquire about the star defender. Adding Vea would have provided a significant boost to San Francisco's defensive front.
