"There's no absolutes on these things, so he's got to continue to hit markers, but he is tracking well," Lynch said. "He's working hard, and we'll just continue to do that, and we'll be a better team when Brandon's out there. And so, we look forward to that day, but it's not close. But when we have some more information on that, we'll be forthright with it."
Head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed those comments on Friday, clarifying that the team is still awaiting a more concrete recovery timeline.
"I think it's more like when we get a kind of, probably, an exact target date," Shanahan said. "That's when you look at it that way. I think we're getting close to that, but just not to have a target date, that's when I start thinking about it. And we don't have that yet, so we're waiting until they give us one."
Nick Bosa surgery update
Lynch also confirmed that defensive end Nick Bosa was scheduled to undergo surgery on Friday to repair the ACL he tore against the Arizona Cardinals. Shanahan shared encouraging news about the procedure.
"I was told at practice that they had it, and they're done, and I heard it went great," Shanahan revealed. "I'll talk to him probably later today, but like I said earlier in the week, I don't remember always the details of injuries, but I know this was as clean of one as anyone's ever described to me. And that's how I heard the surgery went today, too."
