Inside the organization, however, confidence in Purdy remains high. The young quarterback has compiled an impressive 18-5 record as a starter in the regular season. The 49ers have also won six straight games against the Rams in Southern California, and Purdy is determined to keep that streak alive this weekend.
General manager John Lynch shared his unwavering belief in Purdy during an interview on Bay Area radio station KNBR on Friday morning.
"Well, all I know about Brock is, since he's been here, all he's done is prove himself right and a lot of doubters wrong, and we're sure happy that we have him," Lynch said. "Got a lot of trust and belief in Brock. I thought Brock competed his tail off last week under tough circumstances. Would he like some (of his passes) back? I'm sure he would. But Brock has been a really, really special player for us and will continue to be."
Despite leading the NFL with 550 passing yards and completing 72.3 percent of his passes, Brock Purdy and the 49ers are coming off a loss to the Minnesota Vikings, putting them at 1-1. Purdy hopes to get his team back on track with a victory against their division rival on Sunday.
"He's ready for the challenge at hand," Lynch continued. "Brock's a leader on this team. He's a guy who kind of sets the tone for us, and he has this week in practice, so never worried about Brock Purdy.
"I always have a ton of belief in Brock Purdy and what he's going to do for our team, and the same can be said for this week. I think Brock will play outstanding and I'm looking forward to it."
