According to the NFL transaction report, the San Francisco 49ers brought in three defensive backs for tryouts:
- Bryce Hall
- Corey Mayfield Jr.
- Troy Pride Jr.
The workouts come as the 49ers deal with several injuries in the secondary. Cornerback Jack Jones, a surprise standout during training camp, left Thursday night's preseason game against the Tennessee Titans with a hand injury. Safety Marques Sigle also suffered an oblique injury and did not return.
Adding to the injury list, head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that cornerback Nate Hobbs, who did not suit up Thursday night, suffered a groin injury during Tuesday's joint practice with the Titans and is expected to miss a few weeks.
The New York Jets selected Bryce Hall in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He has also spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and played for the Louisville Kings of the UFL this year. Hall has appeared in 40 NFL games, including 26 starts, and has recorded 122 tackles, two interceptions, 0.5 sacks, 21 passes defensed, and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown.
Troy Pride Jr. entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick by the Carolina Panthers in the 2020 NFL Draft. He has also appeared in games for the Las Vegas Raiders and Dallas Cowboys, recording 45 tackles and three passes defensed in 17 career appearances, including nine starts.
Corey Mayfield Jr. is the son of former defensive lineman Corey Mayfield, a former 49ers draft pick. San Francisco selected the elder Mayfield in the 10th round of the 1992 NFL Draft.
