"He did say to me, I think, he did say to me, 'Nothing is done,'" Garafolo reported. "He also said, 'Stop paying attention to everything you read on X.'"
Williams' comments likely refer to a report by Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh, which claimed that a verbal agreement had been reached and that a deal was "being hammered out now." Fillipponi even stated, "The WR is coming to Pittsburgh."
Several insiders have since refuted Fillipponi's report, suggesting that the situation remains fluid. This doesn't necessarily mean that a deal with the Steelers is off the table; it simply indicates that the agreement may not be as finalized as previously suggested.
Garafolo continued, "There is no deal for Brandon Aiyuk to go anywhere as we sit here. ... There is no deal. The 49ers have had those trade talks with multiple teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, from what I understand, but there is no trade agreement in place. There is no contract finalized.
"We will continue to monitor the situation to see where it goes from here. ... There is nothing done at this point. Again, I think we're getting close. I really and truly, honestly believe that we are getting close. We are not there yet."
The Steelers, initially reported as out of contention for Aiyuk, re-entered discussions with the 49ers on Tuesday.
