"All the terms of the deal and contract details are being hammered out now. The WR is coming to Pittsburgh," wrote Fillipponi.
Update: Several insiders—and Aiyuk's agent—have refuted the report that a trade deal is done.
The Steelers had exited negotiations for Aiyuk earlier this week but have since re-entered trade talks. The Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots were previously considered the frontrunners to acquire the receiver. However, the Patriots have exited the negotiations, as it seemed Aiyuk didn't want to play there.
Aiyuk requested a trade before reporting to 49ers training camp and has expressed a desire to play for either the Steelers or Washington Commanders. He aims to become one of the NFL's highest-paid receivers, and the 49ers have not budged from their previous offer, which reportedly would pay him $26 million annually.
Aiyuk's time in the Bay Area may be coming to an end. He has led the 49ers in receiving yards each of the past two seasons, finishing his 2023 campaign with 75 catches for a career-high 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns.
