With nine picks in the 2022 NFL Draft, there was speculation that the 49ers could trade up from one of their mid-round selections to acquire a player high on their draft board, but that wasn't the case at pick No. 93.
The 49ers still have another Day 2 selection at pick No. 105, as they were granted a third-round compensatory pick for the departure of minority coach Robert Saleh.
Despite the availability of safeties Nick Cross and Kerby Joseph, as well as multiple interior offensive linemen, the 49ers elected to shore up their running back depth, taking Davis-Price, who, despite being 210 pounds, ran a respectable 4.48 40-yard dash at the combine.
This pick is certainly one of the player, rather than the need, but the 49ers still have the 105th selection, as well as the 134th selection, and they could certainly trade up with their remaining capital.
Davis-Price could compete to serve as a potential third-down back, given his ten receptions in 2021, as well as running backs coach Anthony Lynn's propensity for grooming receiving backs.
The 49ers clearly felt the value of Davis-Price was too much to pass up at 93, and this move could signal the end of the road for JaMycal Hasty on the 53-man roster, as the team currently has Mitchell, Trey Sermon, and Jeff Wilson Jr. as their halfback depth.
However, with other pressing needs, plus the quality depth of running backs in the draft class, it's surprising that the 49ers went the running back route at 93.
San Francisco's night isn't over yet, as the 49ers are still slated to pick at No. 105 in the draft.
