SANTA CLARA — The 49ers’ veterans reported to training camp on Saturday, and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk remained far away.Until Aiyuk applies for reinstatement — something he says he will not do as long as he remains under contract to the 49ers — he will remain in NFL limbo.
“Brandon is on a left-squad designation,” 49ers general manager John Lynch said on Saturday. “As such, he’s not on our 90-man roster.
“I personally, and we as an organization, are going to focus on the players that are here. And so, I don’t have anything to say on that, anything to add to that. We wish him well. We wish his family well.”
The 49ers granted Aiyuk and his representation permission to seek a trade, Lynch confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area. But no team has stepped up to work out a deal with the 49ers for Aiyuk’s services.
Aiyuk, 28, has stated on social media that he plans to sign with the Washington Commanders the day after the 49ers release him. But there appears to be no resolution in the foreseeable future.
