Former NFL WR issues harsh warning to Commanders about 49ers’ Brandon Aiyuk

Former NFL wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who previously served as Brandon Aiyuk's personal wide receivers coach, has a blunt warning for Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters regarding the disgruntled San Francisco 49ers receiver.

"Adam Peters, you sign Brandon Aiyuk, the Commanders should fire you the day you sign him," Houshmandzadeh said on the Speakeasy podcast.

Aiyuk has seemingly done significant damage to his reputation this offseason, publicly criticizing the 49ers, his former agent, and the NFL Players Association while aggressively pushing for his release and a move to Washington.

However, it's unclear how interested the Commanders actually are in acquiring the veteran receiver, despite Aiyuk repeatedly stating that he is ready to sign with Washington if the 49ers release him.

The ongoing feud between Aiyuk and the 49ers intensified after the receiver signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension in 2024 and later suffered ACL and MCL injuries. During his recovery, tensions escalated when the 49ers voided guaranteed money in his contract after Aiyuk reportedly failed to fulfill rehabilitation commitments with the team.

Aiyuk eventually cut off communication with the organization, prompting the 49ers to place him on the reserve/left squad list and ending any possibility of his return in 2025.

More recently, Aiyuk drew widespread criticism after calling general manager John Lynch "creepy" and comparing head coach Kyle Shanahan's temperament to that of a "toddler."

"He might not step foot in an NFL stadium again if he don't shut the f--k up," Houshmandzadeh said.

Houshmandzadeh believes Aiyuk's behavior won't change simply because he leaves San Francisco, warning that the same issues could follow him to another franchise.

"What makes y'all any different than the San Francisco 49ers?" Houshmandzadeh said. "You don't think he going to do to you what he's doing to them? I don't understand this. If I'm [Commanders QB] Jayden Daniels, B.A. is my boy. If it doesn't work out, is he still going to be my boy? So do I even want to see if it will work out? Because I may ruin a relationship over sports."

Like many around the NFL, Houshmandzadeh said he struggles to understand Aiyuk's mindset or why he believes his public comments are helping his situation. He also offered a direct warning to the 49ers receiver.

"As a former player, and as players that are watching this, that are current players, bro, the NFL is rolling with or without you," Houshmandzadeh said. "Get your a-- on the bus and enjoy the ride, or get your a-- off, because we rolling. This bus is going to keep going with or without you. Why are you doing this?"

It's a question many around the league—and among the 49ers fan base—would also like answered.
