NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Just 163 days after tearing his Achilles in the 49ers’ playoff win over the Philadelphia Eagles, George Kittle was seen running. At Day 2 of the All-Pro’s Tight End University that Kittle founded alongside Kansas City Chiefs Travis Kelce and NFL alum and commentator Greg Olsen, the Iowa product went through warm-ups with the 90 tight ends assembled at Vanderbilt University’s football stadium.
Kittle was not in a full sprint, but it was definitely movement with more velocity than anyone has seen from the tight end since that playoff injury.
“What, you saw that?” Kittle told NBC Sports Bay Area when asked about his warmups. “I thought I was sneaking around. I’m doing great. We’re on track. Everything is going good, no setbacks. Just enjoying it, checking boxes, one day at a time.”
Best-case scenario, Kittle could be available to play in the team’s Week 1 opener in Melbourne, Australia, against division rival Los Angeles Rams, if his recovery continues according to plan.
