Two 49ers rookies make strong impression in NFL preseason debuts against Broncos

What to Know The San Francisco 49ers kicked off the 2025 NFL preseason with a 30-9 loss to the Denver Broncos on Saturday at Levi’s Stadium after an intense joint practice Thursday afternoon. The 49ers welcomed some familiar faces back to Levi’s Stadium, including safety Talanoa Hufanga and linebacker Dre Greenlaw, both of whom left San Francisco to join Denver in NFL free agency this offseason. Quarterback Mac Jones made his highly anticipated 49ers debut and started the game, completing 4 of 7 passes for 74 yards with no touchdowns, an interception and a 54.2 passer rating in three series. Rookie 49ers wide receiver Jordan Watkins stood out on offense, catching three passes for 56 yards — including a 50-yard reception from Jones.
