I just can't get over that play. It happened on the drive we ended up with zero points.

Seemed to be an easy touchdown if Brock leads him like you would expect any QB to do in that situation.

Why did Brock throw it straight to Watkins' spot?

He didn't? Just looked like it was an underthrow and slightly behind him which forced Watkins to slow down and catch it. At least it was still a big completion.

To answer your last question: I do not know. But this is not the first time Brock has not spotted Watkins for what would have been a TD. He did the same thing in the Commanders game. Watkins was wide open deep on the play in question. But, so was Kittle, who was the middle option. Ball went to Kittle. Still a completion. But not a TD.

Watkins did have a couple of moments in the Atlanta game. Then he had some other moments that were not as good. In Kyle's system, the WR makes the catch. No matter how tough it is. The WR is expected to make that catch. Watkins did have his moment to make that catch and score a TD. He did not make it. It was close. But, bottom line, he did not get it done. Until he starts making those impossible, contested catches, BP may never trust him.

He's talking about the completion to Watkins. A better thrown ball and it's probably a touchdown instead of just a big gain.

It was a massive underthrow, to the point where it almost seemed intentional.

Love Brock, think he will bounce back moving forward, but those are the throws that really piss me off about him.

That should be a touchdown. Not a 35 yard play. You NEED that touchdown in a tough game where you are coming from behind.

Thats where not having timing with a receiver shows itself.

Fair enough, and I also considered that as well. You don't think it has anything to do with Brock not trusting his arm and simply going for the safer throw? He has severely underthrown deep passes in the past, which is why I am thinking along these lines...

he also had a clean pocket to step into, so the pressure wasn't the issue.

I don't remember that one. But it's a good example for the question of: "How come this did not happen?" But that's a question that I cannot answer. I do, however, remember the not-a-TD pass that Watkins nearly snagged. He almost came down with it inbounds and held onto it snugly before hitting the ground. But "almost" doesn't work in the NFL. As unfair as that play was to Watkins, it's a play he absolutely must make.

Well if you dont have a good feel on exactly how fast a guy is it makes it tougher to hit that throw. Compare that to the TD to Robinson. Or how hes looked throwing downfield to Evans.

Was a miss but I understand why its harder with guys you dont know as well.
Well didn't play as bad as Mahomes last weekend, so there is that.
Purdy has to deliver the ball to the receiver and when going deep, he has to make the throw so the receiver can catch it in stride and get YAC. I think his biggest weakness is and has been his inability to recognize when a play has broken down and avoid forcing throws that give opponents another opportunity. THAT he must improve upon.
Some QBs are better at leading receivers so they don't need to break stride. Brock has enough arm strength to get the ball deep but he seems to need to put more air under it to get it there. That makes the receiver slow up as he waits for the ball and allows the defender to close the gap. We all know he doesn't have a cannon for an arm.
