The San Francisco 49ers held their second of three practices this week as they prepare for Sunday's Week 7 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. On Wednesday, 10 players missed practice, including defensive end Nick Bosa and wide receiver Mike Evans.
Bosa is working to return from a calf injury after missing the last four games. Head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed hope that the star pass rusher could practice Thursday, but Bosa was not seen on the field during the media-access portion of practice.
Meanwhile, Evans is dealing with Achilles tendinitis that forced him out of Monday night's game against the Washington Commanders in the second quarter. He was also absent during the early portion of Thursday's practice.
Notably, Evans did not practice last week but still suited up against Washington. On Thursday morning, general manager John Lynch was asked whether the veteran wide receiver might play against Atlanta.
"So, we'll let these next couple of days play out and make a decision when we have to," Lynch said in a radio interview. "Mike's that type of player that you wait, you let the process play itself out, and we'll see where we're at at the end of the week."
San Francisco got some positive news: defensive end Mykel Williams returned to the field after missing Wednesday's practice. Williams has played in two games since returning from the ACL injury that cut short his rookie season in 2025.
The 49ers are likely just being cautious with the second-year player, and there is no evidence of a setback.
Reporters can observe only the early portion of practice and must leave before team drills begin. The 49ers will release an official participation report following Thursday's session.
