According to DraftKings, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy currently has the second-best odds to win the 2026 NFL Most Valuable Player award. Purdy sits at +200, just behind Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who leads the field at +190.
For the second straight week, NFL Media writer Nick Shook ranked Purdy No. 2 in his Week 7 NFL quarterback rankings, again behind Allen, who Shook says "continues to play at an incredibly high level."
Purdy's second-half performance in the 49ers' win over the Washington Commanders on Monday night may have given his doubters ammunition. San Francisco's quarterback threw for 214 yards in the first half, but the offense managed just 72 yards after halftime, including multiple three-and-outs at crucial late-game moments.
However, the 49ers missed their top wide receiver, Mike Evans, in the second half, likely contributing to the drop in production. San Francisco has lost several wide receivers to injuries this season, limiting Purdy's passing game options.
Despite those challenges, NFL Media writer Kevin Patra ranks Purdy No. 1 in his Week 7 NFL MVP tracker, though he acknowledged the quarterback's lead in the race has narrowed.
"Purdy came back toward the pack with a rough second half on Monday night," Patra wrote. "That will happen when you're playing without your top six receivers. Still, the undefeated QB remains atop my rankings."
Purdy finished the game 21-of-29 for 264 yards and a touchdown, posting a 111.9 passer rating.
"He showed in the first half that when he has at least one superior pass catcher, he can carve up a defense," Patra continued. "He reiterated that while not a prolific scrambler, his runs are crucial to keeping drives alive.
"Purdy still sits No. 1 in EPA per dropback, success rate, and first-down percentage among QBs with at least 100 attempts, per Next Gen Stats."
Allen ranks No. 3 in Patra's MVP tracker and has closed to within one point of Purdy in EPA per dropback. Patra views the Bills quarterback as a rising contender and wouldn't be surprised if Allen overtakes Purdy for the top spot within the next month.
