As expected, San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams returned to practice Thursday after suffering a neck stinger Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. The team is preparing for its Week 4 matchup against the Denver Broncos at Levi's Stadium.
49ers general manager John Lynch said Thursday morning that Williams was expected to return to practice.
"Yeah, we're hoping to get Trent back out today at practice, and we'll see where it goes from there," Lynch said during a radio interview. "But I know Trent is playing at such a high level and didn't finish that game the other day, and I think looking forward to this week, and we'll see. Provided everything goes well, we're hopeful that we have him."

Wide receiver Mike Evans remains sidelined. That likely won't come as a surprise, since Evans suffered a rib injury against the Cardinals, and the 49ers previously said they'd evaluate the veteran wideout throughout the week.
The good news is that Evans was working on the side during practice, with Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group saying the receiver was even "gingerly" playing catch with Deebo Samuel.
"It shouldn't be long-term," head coach Kyle Shanahan said this week while discussing Evans. "We've got to see how it goes throughout the week. Guys have been in this position before, so we'll see how it goes."
Lynch added that the 49ers plan to be cautious with Evans, who is making every effort to be ready to suit up against the Broncos.
"It's still Thursday, and a couple more days before we kick off," Lynch said. "He's dealing with that, and we'll see if he can get there by Sunday."
Other 49ers practice participation updates
Linebacker Dre Greenlaw (quadricep) and defensive end Keion White (hamstring) were also seen working on the side during practice.
Other players not seen practicing Thursday included defensive end Nick Bosa (knee, calf), wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge (knee), and rookie defensive tackle James Thompson Jr. (ankle).
Running back Christian McCaffrey returned to practice after receiving a veteran rest day Wednesday.
Defensive lineman Mykel Williams, whose practice window opened this week as he attempts to return from last season's ACL injury, continues to practice. Rookie defensive end Romello Height also continues to practice after undergoing hand surgery last week.
The 49ers will release their official injury and participation report after Thursday's practice.
