The New York Giants head into Week 3 with Jameis Winston at quarterback against the Tennessee Titans after starter Jaxson Dart was ruled out for the rest of the regular season with a left knee injury.
The Giants are reportedly exploring other quarterback options, with head coach John Harbaugh saying "all options are open."
According to NFL insiders Ian Rapoport, Adam Schefter, and Mike Garafolo, that list includes San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones.
"Sources told ESPN and NFL Network that the list of quarterbacks includes free agent Jimmy Garoppolo, Cardinals backup Gardner Minshew II, Vikings reserve J.J. McCarthy, 49ers backup Mac Jones, and Chiefs backup Justin Fields. Brandon Allen, who was in training camp with the Giants, is also a possibility."
Of course, after seeing starting quarterbacks go down around the league, the 49ers are in no hurry to part with their insurance policy behind starter Brock Purdy.
49ers general manager John Lynch was recently asked whether teams had called about Jones.
"I'm going to leave that alone," Lynch said. "What I will tell you is I think a lot of people see all of that and say, 'Okay, there's opportunity.' It also tells you we're very fortunate to have a guy like Brock, franchise quarterback. But then to have a guy like Mac, in the event, there's no more important position in football. They're all important, but I think we know, as your quarterback goes, so goes your team."
Jones started eight games for the 49ers last season, finishing with 2,151 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
