The San Francisco 49ers received a C+ for their 2026 offseason in NFL.com's annual team report card, with Matt Okada evaluating every NFC team's moves ahead of the upcoming season.
Okada's grades were aided by NFL Pro data and insights, as well as NFL IQ information, to evaluate each team's offseason improvement.
The 49ers received positive marks for their work in free agency.
"Free agency went decently well for the 49ers this offseason -- they lost WR Jauan Jennings and a few defenders, but nothing particularly disastrous occurred," Okada wrote. "Meanwhile, they signed Evans -- adding an excellent red-zone threat for Brock Purdy -- and traded for DT Osa Odighizuwa. They also brought back LB Dre Greenlaw and inked some others on defense."
Okada noted that the signing of veteran wide receiver Mike Evans would have generated even more excitement if he were a few years younger.
"If Evans were still in his prime, he might have elevated the Niners' grade all on his own. But turning 33 in August, he'll be more of a contributor than a star WR1 in the Bay."
While free agency earned mostly favorable reviews, the 49ers' 2026 NFL Draft ultimately dragged down the team's overall offseason grade.
"However, the draft did not go decently well, at least by almost any sort of consensus analysis," Okada wrote. "Like Jacksonville in the AFC, the Niners reached frequently in April, most notably selecting [WR De'Zhaun] Stribling at 33rd overall and [RB Kaelon] Black at 90th.
"They earned Gennaro Filice's third-lowest draft grade. San Fran's draft class legitimately was the difference between a potential high grade in the A's and an actual final grade in the C's."
Meanwhile, in the NFC West, the Los Angeles Rams received the highest offseason grade with an A, while the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals brought up the rear with grades of D+ and D-, respectively.
