The San Francisco 49ers were not willing to release wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft, holding out hope that a team would pursue a trade.
That scenario never materialized, and Aiyuk remains on the roster—for now.
"No new update right now. We're available. Give us a call," general manager John Lynch told reporters, holding up his phone.

There was speculation that the Washington Commanders might explore a late-round trade for the receiver, but all of their selections came and went without a deal.
If no trade partner emerges, San Francisco is still expected to release Aiyuk before the 2026 NFL season. So a team like the Commanders can just wait, too.
However, no move appears imminent on the 49ers' side, as they are not under immediate pressure to act.
"Like I said earlier, I think it's the prudent thing to do," Lynch added. "He's an extremely talented player. He's been an extremely effective player in our league. The situation didn't work itself out here. That's not to say that it can't be rekindled somewhere else. And we'd be happy to do something with anyone, if the opportunity presented itself."
When asked directly about a timeline for a potential release, Lynch was clear: "Not anytime soon."
