The San Francisco 49ers are reeling from another tough loss, dropping to 3-4 in the standings and surrendering their top spot in the NFC West. Quarterback Brock Purdy struggled, throwing for 212 yards and recording his lowest passer rating as a starter at 36.7. While he rushed for two touchdowns, Purdy's three interceptions were costly.
In Purdy's defense, the 49ers were without several key offensive players. Running back Christian McCaffrey remains on injured reserve due to Achilles tendinitis and the receiving corps was depleted. Jauan Jennings missed the game with a hip injury, and Deebo Samuel was sidelined after just a few plays due to an illness. It was later revealed that he went to the hospital with fluid in his lungs and pneumonia.
The team also lost wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk for the season after he tore his ACL and MCL late in the first half.
The 49ers are hopeful Jennings can return this week, but Samuel's status is still uncertain. Despite these setbacks, San Francisco is favored by five points (-225 money line) for its Week 8 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, according to BetMGM.
The Cowboys, coming off a bye week, last played in a 47-9 blowout loss to the Detroit Lions following two straight wins. They head into the rivalry clash at Levi's Stadium with a 3-3 record.
It will be interesting to see how the 49ers bounce back from their defeat against the Chiefs and whether they can secure a much-needed victory before entering their own bye week.
