A fourth San Francisco 49ers player has earned a spot on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2026 list. Twelve-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Trent Williams came in at No. 40, climbing five spots from his No. 45 ranking in 2025.


Williams recently turned 38 but continues to perform at an elite level, remaining one of the NFL's premier offensive linemen. The veteran has acknowledged that his current contract, which runs through the 2027 season, will probably be his last, and he is widely viewed as a future first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer.


"I think everybody that'll sit down (here) will tell you that Trent Williams will go down as the best left tackle in the history of the NFL," tight end George Kittle said of his teammate. "He's physical when he needs to be. He's finesse when he needs to be. But at the end of the day, we're very confident leaving him one-on-one versus any pass rusher."

49ers offensive lineman Colton McKivitz echoed that sentiment.

"He will go down as the best left tackle in NFL history," McKivitz said. "Some of the things he does athletically at the position, it's not even human sometimes. You wonder how he can do it at his age."

Williams entered the NFL as the No. 4 overall pick by Washington in the 2010 NFL Draft. After being traded to the 49ers in 2020, he has solidified himself as one of the franchise's most dominant players and a fan favorite.

His dominance continued last season as Williams started all 16 games for the 49ers, logging 997 offensive snaps. He earned a 91.5 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, ranking third among all NFL offensive linemen. Williams was penalized just four times while allowing 32 total pressures and four sacks, continuing to anchor San Francisco's offensive line.


"You got to know what to expect with him, but it's hard because he has so many different sets," Cleveland Browns defensive end Jared Verse said. "He's seen everything. You're not going to show him nothing that he hasn't seen for real. The only thing you can really do is what you do best and throw your fastball at him. Don't do a curveball, don't try to get outside yourself, just throw your fastball."

Over his NFL career, Williams has appeared in 204 games, starting all but one—his lone non-start coming during his rookie season. His impressive résumé includes 12 Pro Bowl selections (2012–2018, 2020–2023, 2025) and five All-Pro honors, including three first-team selections (2021–2023) and two second-team nods (2015, 2025).

NFL Media's Bobby Kownack explained why Williams continues to be one of the league's most respected players despite nearing the end of his career.

"Death, taxes and Williams making the NFL Top 100 list. The 12-time Pro Bowl left tackle has now played 15 seasons and has 13 appearances in the Top 100," Kownack wrote. "He remains one of the most important parts of San Francisco's offense heading into his age-38 campaign, having just signed a two-year extension through 2027 he admitted will 'probably' be his last. That means Williams, who has allowed a sack rate under 1% for five straight years, still has a couple shots left at an elusive Super Bowl ring to complete his Hall of Fame career."

Williams joins three other 49ers on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2026 list. Tight end George Kittle ranked No. 46, Fred Warner came in at No. 54, and quarterback Brock Purdy landed at No. 85.
