The 49ers announced that Pearsall is experiencing swelling related to the PCL injury that limited him last season. ESPN's Nick Wagoner reported that the team is exploring "all options" for the wide receiver, with some concern surrounding the situation.
Noah Furtado of the San Francisco Chronicle added that surgery remains a possibility for Pearsall.
Pearsall, the No. 31 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, has missed 14 games through his first two NFL seasons. The 49ers were hoping for a healthy offseason from the young receiver, hoping to see him start opposite veteran Mike Evans in 2026.
Jordan James and Malik Mustapha injury updates
Meanwhile, James was sidelined during the second team session during Monday's practice. It turns out that James suffered a rib fracture and is expected to miss time. He was competing with rookie Kaelon Black for San Francisco's RB2 job behind Christian McCaffrey.
The 49ers also announced that Mustapha sustained a hamstring strain during Monday's practice and will not participate in Wednesday's session.
With training camp underway, the 49ers will continue monitoring each player's recovery timeline as they prepare for the 2026 season.
