Now, Aiyuk has a message for any NFL team that believes his controversial social media behavior would stop if given another opportunity.
"Well, s--t, I gotta get paid somehow, 'cause the employer holding me captive without pay," Aiyuk said on Instagram. "At least social media paying. I'll tell y'all what — I get a job back in the NFL, man, I'm still gonna be on my bulls--t on social media."
That admission should raise red flags for any team considering signing Aiyuk to a low-risk, one-year veteran-minimum deal in 2026 with the hope that he can contribute without becoming a locker-room distraction.
Of course, before Aiyuk can sign elsewhere, the 49ers must first release him. However, the wide receiver remains on the reserve/left squad list and must file the necessary paperwork to be reinstated. Until he does, Aiyuk does not count against the 49ers' roster and reportedly will not receive pay.
The problem for both sides is that Aiyuk has insisted he has no intention of taking that step.
"I will not be reinstating with them nor ever doing any kind of business with them," he recently wrote on Instagram.
Aiyuk has also accused the 49ers of misleading fans about what transpired between him and the organization, The relationship deteriorated during his rehabilitation from the ACL and MCL injuries he suffered in 2024.
The 49ers maintain that Aiyuk failed to meet his contractual rehabilitation obligations, resulting in the team voiding his guaranteed money.
"When the news finally came out that my guarantees were voided in November, the team continued to lie to the media/fan base, acting as if that was not a decision that was made in July," Aiyuk wrote. "Continually saying that I would be returning, despite [the] fact that I told them on numerous occasions that I would not be. With the severity of my injury and [guarantees] no longer on the table, that was not an option.
"[W]e are 1 year from the date [on] which they made the decision to void my guarantees due to 'missed rehab,' yet they have the footage and the GPS information that shows I reached markers I never hit even before injury. All before the required recovery time ordered by the surgeon."
Aiyuk has made no secret of his desire to join the Washington Commanders. However, he recently took a shot at his friend, quarterback Jayden Daniels, after Daniels failed to defend him when a 49ers fan voiced frustration about the receiver. The fallout reportedly led to Daniels and Aiyuk unfollowing each other on Instagram.
At this point, Aiyuk's NFL future appears to be in his own hands. Yet with each new social media post, the 49ers receiver seems to make it even more difficult for another team to justify taking a chance on him.
