The San Francisco 49ers lost several contributors from their wide receiver room this offseason, including veterans Jauan Jennings and Kendrick Bourne. However, knowing a transition was underway at the position, the team moved aggressively to reload its receiving corps.

The 49ers signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneers standout Mike Evans and veteran wideout Christian Kirk in free agency. They also used their top draft pick on De'Zhaun Stribling, an intriguing rookie prospect who could quickly emerge as a significant contributor on offense.


Meanwhile, former first-round pick Ricky Pearsall enters his third NFL season looking to establish himself as a true difference-maker. Young receivers Jordan Watkins and Jacob Cowing are also competing for larger roles in the offense.

As a result, the 49ers believe they may have assembled one of their deepest and most competitive receiver groups in recent memory.

"This is like our probably most depth we've had in the wide receiver room," tight end George Kittle told NBC Sports Bay Area at Tight End University (TEU) in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday. "Like one of the most competitive wide receiver rooms we've had. So, I'm just looking forward to seeing all of the competition."

Kittle expects Evans' veteran presence and leadership to have a major impact on the younger players in the room.

"I know Mike Evans is amazing, and it's really fun to see how he works and how guys follow his work ethic," Kittle added.


Fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who is also attending TEU this week, echoed Kittle's excitement about the 49ers' revamped receiving corps.

"I've seen such a shift," Juszczyk said. "It's been so awesome to see Mike Evans in person and to be in a Niners jersey. He has been so dominant and something that I don't think we've had in—maybe ever—not in a long time.

"His ability to be a true X receiver, running individual routes by himself, and win against man-to-man coverage, I think, is going to open up so much for this offense—an offense that's already had a lot of success without it."

If the 49ers can avoid the injury issues that plagued them last season, Juszczyk believes the team's revamped offensive arsenal could be dangerous in 2026.

"So, I think, we get healthy, the addition of Mike, with Stribling, Christian Kirk, [rookie RB] Kaelon Black, I think that there's a lot of explosive, reliable players that are just going to take this offense to another level," Juszczyk said.
