The Los Angeles Rams have made two things clear this offseason: they aren't interested in making life easier for the San Francisco 49ers, and they're determined to dethrone the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

First, the Rams eliminated one of the 49ers' traditional advantages by pushing for San Francisco as their opponent for their international "home" game in Australia. The move takes the matchup away from SoFi Stadium, where 49ers fans have routinely taken over the venue despite the game being played in the Los Angeles area.


Now, the Rams have made another statement. Los Angeles has reportedly acquired Cleveland Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett in a blockbuster trade, signaling a clear Super Bowl-or-bust mentality heading into the 2026 season.

Competing with the Seahawks and Rams in the NFC West was already expected to be a challenge. Garrett's arrival in Los Angeles only increases the difficulty for the 49ers.

49ers fans reacted to the news of the trade. While some expressed frustration over the Rams adding another elite player, others questioned why San Francisco wasn't more aggressive in pursuing Garrett.

On Facebook, fan Bubba Vongsaeva argued that the 49ers should have pursued Garrett but likely hesitated due to the required financial commitment.

"Niners ain't going to do nothing. We going to draft players that won't even touch the field over and over again," Vongsaeva wrote.


"I wished the [Niners] made this move. I would give up two firsts for him. That's the equivalent of Pearsall and [Mykel] Williams," added Antoine Lynn.

However, not every reaction was negative.

On Facebook, Mark Nivers wrote, "We played against him in Cleveland and did fine."

Robert Salter wrote: "One player doesn't win [a] championship. [The Rams] are mortgaging the future to try and win now with uncertainty at quarterback and they gave up a young rising star in [Jared Verse]."

"Not worried. We will beat them Week 1," @AlltopMichael wrote on X.


No matter the view, one thing is certain: the road to an NFC West title just became even more interesting for the 49ers.
