Despite the fit on paper, questions remain about whether a move is realistic given Bosa's age (30) and declining production. The five-time Pro Bowler has recorded just five sacks in each of the past two seasons. He is clearly at the tail end of his career.
On Thursday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and defensive end Nick Bosa addressed the possibility of bringing Joey Bosa to Santa Clara.
"I love signing good players," Shanahan said. "My kids do Instagram and look at you guys' stuff, so they ask me that all the time, too. I'm not hearing about all that stuff much."
Shanahan emphasized that while he would always be open to adding proven talent like Joey Bosa, roster moves of that magnitude are not always feasible.
"I look at our team as kind of we have our team, and anyone else that we can figure out to bring, especially someone like that, that would be awesome," Shanahan said. "But that stuff's not always possible."
Nick Bosa was also asked about the possibility of his older brother joining the 49ers—or whether Joey's playing days might even be complete.
"I think he's working on his golf game right now," Nick Bosa said. "So, I don't think he's thinking too much about football."
