There was brief speculation that the San Francisco 49ers could explore a trade for former Indianapolis Colts veteran cornerback Kenny Moore II. Then, there was speculation that the team might be interested in signing the defensive back after the Colts released him on May 7.

However, one prominent 49ers insider does not expect San Francisco to be among Moore's suitors.


Within the comments section of a recent YouTube video posted by NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, a fan asked whether the 49ers might pursue Moore. Maiocco was skeptical about the fit.

"I suppose it could happen, but I don't see the fit," Maiocco responded. "He's a nickel back. The 49ers have Upton Stout. And if he shifts to safety, he'd be learning a new full-time spot entering his 10th NFL season."

Maiocco noted that the 49ers are likely better served sticking with their current defensive back group rather than adding the soon-to-be 31-year-old Moore.

Still, he acknowledged a scenario in which a move could make sense under specific conditions.

"If I were the 49ers, I'd roll with Stout, Mustapha, Sigle and Brown," Maiocco added. "But if he wants to sign with no guarantees and fight for a roster spot, that would work."


Moore brings extensive experience, having started 111 games in his NFL career, including seven in 2025. Last season, he appeared in 14 games and recorded 55 tackles (three for loss), one interception returned for a touchdown, six passes defensed, 1.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.

Additionally, he was named to the Pro Bowl in 2021.
