However, draft-day criticism tends to fade quickly when a player produces on the field. If Stribling develops into a reliable contributor for the 49ers, the No. 33 overall selection could eventually be viewed as one of the better value picks in the draft. The rookie may even emerge as a long-term starter capable of eventually succeeding veteran wide receiver Mike Evans, who turns 33 in August.
Bleacher Report's Moe Moton recently identified five rookie wide receivers poised to outplay their draft value in 2026, with Stribling making the list. Moton pointed to the rookie's fit within head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense as a key reason why the receiver could make an early impact.
"Stribling is a willing blocker, which will help him earn more snaps in Shanahan's run-centric offense," Moton wrote. "As a wideout, he's a potential deep threat in a receiver room of older possession, pass-catching veterans."
The 49ers also added veteran receiver Christian Kirk during the offseason, but only on a one-year contract. Meanwhile, former first-round pick Ricky Pearsall enters his third NFL season after an injury-plagued 2025 campaign.
That combination could create an opportunity for Stribling to carve out a meaningful role sooner rather than later. While the rookie is expected to begin the season behind Evans, Pearsall, and Kirk on the depth chart, Moton believes durability concerns among the veteran group could open the door for increased playing time.
"Stribling's season-opening role may be limited behind Pearsall, Mike Evans, and Christian Kirk, but all three wideouts missed four or more games last season," Moton noted. "The rookie could fill gaps in the passing game and play a majority of the offensive snaps by the end of the 2026 campaign."
If Stribling can quickly earn Shanahan's trust as both a blocker and pass catcher, he could prove to critics that he was worthy of the early second-round investment.
