Fullback Kyle Juszczyk recently joined The Jim Rome Show and addressed the ongoing narrative surrounding his quarterback, making it clear where he stands.
Juszczyk described Purdy as "the ultimate competitor," emphasizing that the trait extends well beyond the football field. He recalled an offseason trip to Cabo San Lucas, where a group of teammates saw that competitive edge firsthand during friendly vacation games.
"I love that about Brock, and I love that in my quarterback," Juszczyk said. "I want the most competitive person in the world as my quarterback, and I think that's exactly what we got in Brock."
When it comes to media—and at times fan—perception, Juszczyk admitted he isn't sure what more Purdy needs to prove to be viewed as a top NFL passer.
"I don't know what it is, what it's going to take for this guy to finally get the respect that I think he truly deserves, because season in, season out, he plays tremendously," Juszczyk continued. "And I don't know what it is. I don't know if it's just the fact that he's not a first-round draft pick—if that is just going to be the story for his entire career and be kind of held against him, maybe.
"But I love the guy, as a person, as my quarterback, as a football player. He is the dude."
Purdy is entering his fifth NFL season and has already compiled 11,685 passing yards, 84 touchdowns, and 37 interceptions. In 2023, he set a 49ers franchise record with 4,280 passing yards in a single season. San Francisco signed him to a five-year, $265 million contract in 2025, making him one of the NFL's highest-paid players.
Although he missed significant time last season due to a turf toe injury, Purdy played a key role down the stretch, helping lead the 49ers to the playoffs while posting a 7-2 record as a starter.
