Despite missing significant time last season due to a turf toe injury, Brock Purdy played well when available, helping the San Francisco 49ers navigate a wave of injuries that depleted the roster.

Purdy finished the year with a 7-2 record as a starter, winning six consecutive games after returning in Week 11 before falling to the Seattle Seahawks in the regular-season finale. He totaled 2,167 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.


The 49ers quarterback also earned a career-high 86.1 passing grade from Pro Football Focus, highlighting his efficiency—particularly on intermediate throws (10–19 yards), where he posted an impressive 92.8 passing grade.

As the 49ers turn the page to 2026, the focus has shifted to refining Purdy's game. That process begins with a detailed review of the 2025 season—breaking down mistakes, identifying weaknesses, and building a plan for improvement.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan, speaking at the NFL's annual meetings in Phoenix, Arizona, outlined how the coaching staff is approaching Purdy's offseason development.

Much of that work will ramp up when Purdy and the rest of the quarterback group—including Mac Jones—return to the facility later this month.

"It always starts with the cut-ups with Brock," Shanahan said. "When you get evaluated throughout the whole year—he'll be able to evaluate Mac too because Mac had to play in so many games—it starts when we get into the building. We go pretty hard on him on every bad clip. We give him soft compliments on the good clips.


"He's really good at taking it, and we give him a plan when he comes in based off the film, usually give him about five things—depends on how many things we see. And then, he starts in phase one."

Shanahan emphasized that Purdy's mindset makes him especially coachable. The quarterback welcomes criticism and remains focused on improvement, which allows the coaching staff to push him and help the offense reach its full potential.

"Brock's really fun that way because he's fun to coach, because he's always humble and never takes it personally," Shanahan added. "And we usually fix that stuff by training camp."

If that process continues as planned, the 49ers could see an even more polished and efficient Brock Purdy leading the offense in 2026.
