San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is serving as a guest analyst on NBC's pregame coverage of Super Bowl LX at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, as the Seattle Seahawks prepare to face the New England Patriots.

During the broadcast, Shanahan was asked what makes the Seahawks' defense so difficult to play against. His response was both humorous and painfully honest—and a reminder of how much the 49ers struggled against Seattle this season.


"I know you guys want my expert opinion, but I haven't scored a touchdown on these guys the last two times I've seen them," Shanahan said, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.


Shanahan wasn't exaggerating.

The 49ers faced the Seahawks three times this season. San Francisco opened the year with a 17-13 win at Lumen Field in Week 1. However, by the time the teams met again in Week 18, the 49ers' roster had been heavily impacted by injuries, and Seattle secured a 13-3 victory.


The two teams squared off once more in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. This time, the Seahawks dominated in a 41-6 blowout, eliminating San Francisco from postseason contention.

As Shanahan noted, the 49ers failed to score a touchdown in the final two matchups against Seattle, managing just three field goals combined. His lighthearted remark underscored a serious reality: the Seahawks' defense repeatedly stifled one of the NFL's most innovative offensive minds and an explosive 49ers offense when it mattered most.
