The San Francisco 49ers offense has been firing on all cylinders in recent weeks, led by standout quarterback Brock Purdy. Still, with uncertainty at the wide receiver position, head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch may look to add some explosive playmakers in the 2026 NFL Draft.

With Brandon Aiyuk seemingly headed for the exit and Jauan Jennings slated to become a free agent, the 49ers could prioritize bolstering their receiving corps, regardless of the outcome with their current veterans.


In his latest 2026 NFL mock draft, Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports predicts the Bay Area team will use the No. 28 overall pick on USC wide receiver Makai Lemon, believing the 5-foot-11, 195-pound receiver is an ideal fit for Shanahan's system.

"Lemon, who also excels as a returner, is a dynamic, versatile receiver with explosive burst, top-tier route running, and exceptional YAC ability, making him a threat at all three levels of the field," Wilson wrote.

Lemon has been highly productive at USC, posting 79 receptions for a Big Ten-leading 1,156 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. His career totals now include 137 catches, 2,008 yards, and 14 touchdowns, according to Sports Reference.

Pro Football Focus graded Lemon 91.4 in 2025, a career-high that led all NCAA receivers, while his 502 yards after the catch ranked 13th nationally.

"He excels in space and consistently creates separation with quickness, balance, and body control, and has the tackle-breaking ability to turn short gains into big plays," Wilson added.
