Tryouts:
- LB Andrew Farmer
- DE Clelin Ferrell
- DE Kingsley Jonathan
- DE Casey Toohill
Interestingly, Ferrell started 17 games for the 49ers in 2023 after starting his NFL career with the Las Vegas Raiders. He has since appeared in games with the Washington Commanders and Los Angeles Chargers.
The 49ers have struggled to generate a consistent pass rush this season, and their defensive depth has taken a significant hit following Nick Bosa's season-ending injury. Bryce Huff is currently recovering from a hamstring issue, while Yetur Gross-Matos has missed the past three games due to knee and hamstring injuries.
Additionally, Sam Okuayinonu is listed as day-to-day with an ankle injury.
To make matters worse, the Carolina Panthers signed Trevis Gipson off the 49ers' practice squad on Tuesday. Gipson was active in Sunday's game against the Houston Texans, playing 39 defensive snaps. The loss leaves San Francisco even thinner along the defensive front.
