Here are my rapid reactions. These are my live responses to the game as it unfolded. This one wasn't much fun, but let's take a look.
- Warner is a heat-seeking missile. Wow!
- Brutal turnover on the 49ers' first drive. Tampa has a very short field now.
- Well, that was quick. The Buccaneers scored only two plays after the interception. It's 7-0.
- Jones and Kendrick Bourne make up for the miscommunication with a big pass play.
- Jones gets sacked, and the drive ends. But Eddy Piñeiro hits a 52-yard field goal to put San Francisco on the board. He's now 12 for 12 on field goal attempts since joining the 49ers.
- Warner is down, and it looks bad. I'm stunned by the number of injuries this team has endured. And it's only October.
- Mykel Williams gets his first sack as a pro.
- Skyy Moore just fielded another punt inside the 10-yard line. He caught this one at the 2-yard line. Does Brant Boyer want him to do that? I certainly don't.
- Jones is sacked again. So far, this offense looks lifeless.
- Tatum Bethune is in for Warner, and he just destroyed the receiver.
- Moore just did it again. Another punt fielded at the 2-yard line. Unreal!
- Jones is getting hit a lot out there. This time, it's Luke Farrell (the blocking specialist) who lets his QB get hit.
- Another huge Jones to Bourne connection. This one goes for 56 yards.
- How did Jones get rid of that ball on the completion to Brian Robinson?
- Christian McCaffrey scores the 49ers' first rushing touchdown of the season. And somehow the 49ers have the lead.
- Malik Mustapha is in the game. It's good to see him back.
- The 49ers' defense is having a hard time stopping the run. And Tampa is back on top.
- Piñeiro hits another one over 50 yards. The 49ers are down by one.
- A busted coverage gives Tampa another touchdown. The 49ers stuffed the 2-point conversion and trail by seven.
- Demarcus Robinson was wide open at midfield when he dropped that pass. But he made up for it with a big catch right after it.
- Piñeiro nails another one and brings the 49ers to within four at the half.
- The 49ers have no life when it comes to kick and punt returns.
- Isaac Guerendo is no longer on kickoff returns. At this point, he's pretty worthless to the team. I'd rather have Jordan James active.
- Bourne has now gone over 100 yards receiving again.
- Jauan Jennings is not having a good game. Zero catches, two penalties, and one sideline spat with Head Coach Kyle Shanahan.
- The offensive pass interference penalty by Jennings essentially ended that drive. A field goal moves San Francisco to within one.
- You may have heard this before, but the 49ers' defense can't stop the run.
- Horrible tackling, and Baker Mayfield just ran for a first down on 3rd and 14. Unbelievable! That's how you lose games.
- The defense just gave up a deep touchdown pass. They have not been good today. The 49ers are down by eight.
- Jake Brendel is terrible. What a rally-killer.
- Jones is sacked again, and the 49ers will punt. I blame Brendel.
- The 49ers' defense is now missing tackles at a high rate. It reminds me of 2024.
- 2025 Dominic Puni is not good. That false start forced the 49ers to have to go for it on 4th and 6. Jones threw another pick, and that may do it.
- Jones has no time and is sacked for the sixth time today. His offensive line is awful. They can't run block, and they can't pass block.
Up next for the 49ers is a date with the Atlanta Falcons at Levi's Stadium. The game will be on Sunday night football next week. There will be a lot of questions this week that need to be answered, from who will be the quarterback, to which injured players can return.
Regardless, this team has to somehow find a way to get healthier and bounce back from this ugly loss. And they have to do it without Warner or Nick Bosa.
