Update: The Athletic's Matt Barrows confirms that no deal between Jennings and the 49ers has been struck at this time.
Jennings missed most of training camp due to the injury setback, though speculation swirled that his absence could be tied to his ongoing contract dispute with the 49ers. The veteran receiver is entering the final year of the two-year deal he signed in 2024 and is seeking a new agreement.
Last week, general manager John Lynch confirmed that Jennings had previously requested a trade but emphasized that the team has moved past that point.
"A while ago, he did (ask to be traded), but that was a long time ago, and we've moved on from that," Lynch said.
Jennings wasn't the only player back on the field Monday. Offensive guard Dominick Puni, who suffered a knee sprain during the preseason, defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos, recovering from his own knee injury, and rookie cornerback Upton Stout (calf) were also among those who returned to practice.
The 49ers have been hit hard by injuries this offseason, so getting Jennings, Puni, Gross-Matos, and others back provides a much-needed boost as they prepare for the regular-season opener against the Seahawks.
