Wide receiver remains one of the 49ers' biggest question marks entering the new season. The team traded Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders this offseason, continues to await Brandon Aiyuk's recovery from ACL and MCL injuries, and is hoping both Jauan Jennings and rookie Jordan Watkins can return to action after their own injury setbacks.
In addition to a lingering calf injury, Jennings' situation is further complicated by his push for a new contract as he enters the final year of his current deal. Meanwhile, veteran Demarcus Robinson is awaiting word on a potential multi-game suspension from the NFL.
That leaves Ricky Pearsall, who is only entering his second NFL season, as the top wideout option for now. San Francisco already attempted to trade for Houston Texans wideout John Metchie III, but the Philadelphia Eagles outbid them for his services.
It remains unclear whether the 49ers are solely focused on wide receiver or exploring upgrades at other positions as well. However, with the roster cutdown deadline approaching, general manager John Lynch and his staff are likely exploring trade options to bolster depth across the roster.
