Head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the media after practice, offering a reassuring update.
"CJ West hyperextended his knee," Shanahan said. "We think it's going to be all right, but it looks similar to what happened to [DL] Mykel [Williams] last week. His ACL and everything checked out so far, so hopefully, we'll be lucky."
The 49ers' defensive line depth was already being tested heading into the practice. Nick Bosa sat out with soreness, while Robert Beal Jr. (groin), Jordan Elliott (back), Kevin Givens (pectoral), Sam Okuayinonu (groin), and Mykel Williams (knee) remained sidelined.
Additionally, defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos continues to recover from a knee injury while on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, and defensive end Bradlee Anae was recently placed on injured reserve.
To bolster the unit, San Francisco signed defensive ends William Bradley-King and Demone Harris to one-year deals before Thursday's session.
