The big question remains: What salary range will his new contract fall into?
Dak Prescott holds the league's highest annual salary at $60 million. However, Purdy is not expected to match or surpass that figure.
Purdy reported to the 49ers this week for the start of the offseason program, a promising sign that negotiations are progressing smoothly.
"I don't want to say that they're close, but they're at least at a close enough point where you say, 'All right, I could see a deal getting done at some point,'" Rapoport told Eisen. "And so he shows up. When a quarterback holds out, it's like a whole different thing, so it's just easier for all of us when he shows up, and I think that was the right move.
Rapoport added, "But I do believe a deal will get done."
Curious about the possible salary range, Eisen asked if Rapoport expects Purdy's new deal to be closer to Geno Smith's $37.5 million annually or Jared Goff's $53 million.
"Oh, Goff," Rapoport responded quickly. "I think he'll be a $50 million quarterback. We'll see if we get to mid-50s."
When asked if Purdy's deal could approach $60 million per year, Rapoport said, "You never know, because you never know what a deal looks like, but I would be surprised."
