Protection for quarterback Brock Purdy was already a concern entering Day 1, and the 49ers have yet to address the offensive line or plan for the future—left tackle Trent Williams will turn 37 ahead of the 2025 season.
"The 49ers beefed up their defensive line by selecting Mykel Williams and Alfred Collins," Chadwick wrote. "The team should do the same to its offensive line on Day 3."
In addition to eventually replacing Trent Williams, the 49ers lost starting left guard Aaron Banks in free agency. Currently, there would be a competition at that spot to identify a new starter—although, Chadwick believes there's already a frontrunner.
"Ben Bartch is slated to start at left guard, despite playing just 65 snaps last year, and San Francisco should look to find its future at tackle with Trent Williams turning 37 years old," he noted. "Cameron Williams or Marcus Mbow would fit the 49ers' outside zone-heavy scheme."
NFL.com projects Cameron Williams, the 6-foot-6, 317-pound offensive lineman out of Texas, as a fourth-round draft pick, with Purdue's Marcus Mbow, a 6-foot-4, 303-pound prospect, projected in a similar range. Either could be an early Day 3 target for San Francisco.
The 2025 NFL Draft resumes at 9:00 a.m. PT on Saturday, and the 49ers hold the following remaining selections:
- Round 4, Pick 113
- Round 4, Pick 138
- Round 5, Pick 147
- Round 5, Pick 160
- Round 7, Pick 227
- Round 7, Pick 249
- Round 7, Pick 252
