However, with quarterback Brock Purdy expected to become one of the league's highest-paid players, the team's future salary-cap flexibility could be limited.
Warner has been vocal in his campaign to keep Greenlaw in the Bay Area. When recently asked how badly he wants his teammate back, the All-Pro linebacker didn't hold back.
"Oh, man, as bad as anybody," Warner said. "That's the guy, I feel like, that has allowed me to ascend in this league ... because of his ascension and the type of player that he is, how unselfish of a player that he is, how ferocious of a human being in a player that he is.
"And so, people, they look at me, but you can't see me without him, so I hope we get him back."
Head coach Kyle Shanahan echoed those sentiments, expressing how much the team values Greenlaw.
"We're doing everything in the world we can to bring Greenlaw back," Shanahan said, "and we're not into losing really good players who are unbelievable people."
