Cornerback Amik Robertson, a fourth-round draft pick by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020, signed a two-year contract with the Detroit Lions this past offseason. Speaking with the Detroit Free Press, Robertson explained why he felt the Lions were the perfect fit for him.

"I wanted to be here," Robertson said. "The style, when I watched this team play, the style that Dan (Campbell), that he plays with, this don't-give-a-(expletive) attitude, I fit in perfect."


The decision has certainly paid off. The Lions are among the NFL's best teams and will compete for home-field advantage next week when they face the Minnesota Vikings.

However, Detroit wasn't Robertson's only suitor in March. When initial contract negotiations with the Lions stalled, other teams, including the San Francisco 49ers, expressed interest.

"Robertson said he likely would have ended up in San Francisco had the Lions not been in the picture," wrote Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

Birkett also reported that the 49ers' offer was "potentially more lucrative." Despite that, Robertson held off on signing with the Bay Area team, still hoping to land in Detroit. Eventually, the Lions offered a two-year, $9.25 million deal, and Robertson got his wish.

Robertson will make his third start of the season on Monday night when the 49ers host the Lions in a rematch of last season's NFC Championship Game. While the Lions are competing for home-field advantage and are considered strong Super Bowl contenders, the 49ers have endured a disappointing, injury-plagued season and have already been eliminated from playoff contention.
