Speaking to reporters after Friday's practice, Purdy addressed questions about his arm as the team prepares for its Week 17 matchup against the Detroit Lions. The quarterback offered a definitive response when asked if his throwing arm was fully healthy or simply good enough to play.
"It's 100 percent healthy," Purdy stated, putting any lingering doubts to rest.
Purdy is coming off a record-breaking 2023 season, during which he threw for 4,280 yards—the most in a single season in franchise history, a remarkable feat given the iconic quarterbacks who have played for the organization.
Injuries have plagued the 49ers' roster this year, sidelining several key playmakers. Among those missing are wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, Purdy's favorite target last season, and running back Christian McCaffrey, last season's NFL Offensive Player of the Year.
Purdy has completed 65 percent of his passes this season for 3,487 yards, 17 touchdowns, and a passer rating of 94.4—all declines from his standout 2023 campaign.
Purdy and the 49ers aim to close out their 2024 season on a high note, starting with an upset win over the Lions on Monday night before wrapping things up on the road against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 18.
