The San Francisco 49ers will soon face the challenge of signing quarterback Brock Purdy to a long-term contract extension. The big question: how much should that deal be worth? The topic has sparked significant debate.

While some argue Purdy deserves a market-setting contract—potentially making him the league's highest-paid quarterback—others believe his individual impact doesn't justify such a significant payday.


We decided to allow fans to weigh in, asking how much Purdy should earn annually with his new deal.

The results? A majority of fans think paying Purdy a market-topping salary is excessive. Only 6% of voters believe the quarterback should earn at least $60 million annually—the same amount as Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

Meanwhile, 20% of fans believe Purdy's salary should fall between $50–60 million annually. The most popular choice, however, was the $40–50 million range, garnering 42% of the votes. Another 32% of fans feel Purdy deserves less than $40 million annually.


NFL insider Tom Pelissero recently weighed in, predicting that Purdy will target a salary comparable to Prescott's.

"If a deal is going to get done, I would anticipate it is at the top of the quarterback market for all the reasons that I just said," Pelissero said. "Right now, that Dak's number. That is $60 million per year."


ESPN's Bill Barnwell went a step further, predicting Purdy's camp could aim even higher.

"I suggested over the summer a Purdy deal would come in at five years and $325 million, or $65 million per year," Barnwell wrote. "That's still the number he and his agents are likely targeting."

However, not everyone is convinced Purdy is worth such a hefty investment. Former NFL coach Ron Rivera expressed skepticism, citing Purdy's uninspiring performance against the Los Angeles Rams last week as a sign that he may not warrant a top-tier deal.

"He's a solid quarterback," Rivera said. "He does some really good things. He really is, to me, in my estimation, a game manager."

Some fans support Purdy earning top-of-the-market money, pointing to his overall impressive performance over his first three NFL seasons, including his record-breaking 2023 campaign with the 49ers.



Others argue that the 49ers should prioritize upgrading other positions, suggesting Purdy take a more team-friendly deal to improve the roster as a whole.


It's a polarizing topic that will dominate discussions before and after Purdy eventually signs his contract extension, shaping up to be one of the most significant storylines of the upcoming offseason.
